Standard Care
Although extremely durable, silicone should be taken care of properly to get the most out of your toy. Listed below are some of the things you should keep in mind when it comes to maintaining and cleaning your toy. Refer to these examples if you want to extend the life of your toy, maintain its smooth and pliable feel, and most importantly keep you safe while using your toy.
Always avoid sharp objects that can puncture or scratch the surface of your toy. It also isn’t well equipped to handle contact with rough surfaces. Cuts in silicone, even micro cuts will continue to spread and grow larger over time.
Silicone products are incompatible with silicone-based lubes. Silicone LOVES to bond with other silicone, because of this your toy may over time begin to develop a gel-like feeling rather than retain its firm smooth texture. It is highly recommended to only use a water-based lubricant for your toys.
Not all silicone is the same. Storing silicone toys together is ill-advised as different quality silicones can lead to a multitude of issues including sticky spots, leaching of smells, and bonding or breaking down where the products make contact. We highly recommend storing your toys where they will not make contact with other silicone products.
For this reason, we recommend storing products from Rut Lab away from other brands. If they use platinum cure silicone then it should be safe to store them in the same bin but that is a risk you would have to decide on.
Please remember – we do not take responsibility for any negligent damage to your purchased products. We do our best to make you something special and unique, but it is up to you the user, to take care of it.
Good Practice
- Be sure to thoroughly clean your product before using it. There are many ways, but soap and warm water are a great place to start.
- Only use a quality, water-based lube with your toys.
- After use remember it is important to keep your toy clean, you don’t have to only use soap and water. A few methods will be listed down below.
- When storing your product, be sure not to store them with other brands that are not Platinum Cure silicone. Ziplock bags are great, you can even use dry towels too for storing.
- Keeping toys in a location where they are unlikely to be squished or have something spilled on them is recommended.
- If you have several toys, investing in a toy box is a great idea for keeping them safe and clean.
