Firmness Introduction

For optimal user experience, we offer 3 different firmness options. Deciding on the perfect firmness for you is probably the most challenging decision when purchasing a fantasy toy product. This guide will provide you with information to help with your decision.

Quick Note: It’s a general recommendation to start with Firm for smaller toys, Medium firmness for toys in between, and Soft for larger toys.

Sample Sets

Not required! Though here at Rut Lab, we highly suggest ordering one of our Sample Sets. This will allow you to feel the difference between our available firmnesses giving you a better understanding of a potential future purchase.

If you purchase a Sample Set, be sure to squeeze the sample in your hands, fold it and feel how the change in thickness affects the feeling, twist and pull at it, glide your fingers over the cavities and ridges of the logo and feel how the firmness affects the smaller details too. Inspecting the sample sets in this way gives a better understanding of how the toy will squish, move, and flex while being used.

Silicone is an extremely durable material but it reacts poorly to other silicone products such as silicone lube. If you are unsure about a lubricant or other product, you can also use the sample disks to check for compatibility.

Offered Firmness

There are three main firmness options for our dildoes which consist of Soft, Medium, and Firm.

  • Soft – Great for larger toys since it flexes and bends with minimal effort. Something to keep in mind is some models will have difficulty standing upright independently when cast with this firmness.
  • Medium – This firmness option gives a little of both worlds, a bit of flex, along with retaining details that can be felt more throughout the use of a toy. Some models will still have difficulty standing on their own but will be much more willing to hold than a soft toy.
  • Firm – The most resisting firmness that we commonly offer. It is difficult to compress comparatively to the other firmnesses. Details such as veins and ridges will be felt much more distinctly in this firmness than the others.

Masturbator toys are poured in Extra Soft, we almost exclusively keep this firmness to that style of product since the softness makes it slightly more prone to nicks and cuts. An Extra Soft toy in the form of a dildo would also be extremely difficult to use.

If a toy has a firmness split, the split will be at the end of the shaft where the base starts. Firmness can not be faded (example soft tip gradually transitioned to firm base of shaft.)

Suggestions

  • Toy Size – The size and thickness of a toy is going to affect how firm the toy feels. The larger a toy is the “harder / firmer” the toy is going to feel. This is due to the density of the toy itself. The greater the mass, the more it will resist change.
  • Variation – When selecting a firmness, look at the proportions of the toy that you are interested in. Slimer sections on a toy are going to flex much more than sections with more girth.
  • Free Standing – If you are wanting the toy to spend part of its life as a decoration, be sure to again look at the proportions, a long slender toy in soft isn’t going to want to stay standing on its own without help.

What firmness is going to be best for you is going to be a personal decision. Maybe you are someone who loves large toys so ordering an XL in soft which can flex and squish its way inside is the right choice for you. Possibly you just want a companion to help loosen up a bit before a night of fun so a Mini in firm ends up being the best fit for you. We can’t advise as to the perfect combination for you but feel free to contact us if you like! Friends can also be a useful source of information too.

Firmness Table

This table gives a rough idea of what the firmness of a toy will “feel like” when associated with different sizes.

Different product styles may have a deviating result from this table, the table itself just gives a more encompassing idea of what to expect.
